This lecture discusses how acupuncture may be performed using ultrasound guides to the aim of greater safety and effectiveness.
Although it is true that "acupuncture points," which are the target of treatment, are still a largely unexplored area, many studies have been conducted regarding how to avoid potential risks and provide safe and effective treatment. Still, it would be difficult to substantially reduce the risk of medical accidents in actual clinical practice if treated roughly based on inaccurate approximations based on BMI without taking sex or weight into consideration with the thought process of "what needling depth is generally safe" and "how many millimeters less than average is safe for thin body types."
There is also the issue of technical difficulty regarding how needles are difficult to detect if out of plane, and virtually impossible to keep in plane in navigating the body three-dimensionally. Therefore, various needle guide devices have been developed, including those where ultrasonic waves are used to detect the estimated path of the needle and thus safely and accurately guide the acupuncture or pharmacopuncture needle to reach the target point.
Through this development from 2D to 3D acupuncture, it is expected that safer, more accurate, and more effective acupuncture treatment will become possible by becoming able to pinpoint the needle tip to the three-dimensional acupuncture point location by means of medical imaging.
* Learn the latest research on specifying clinical targets and how you can avoid medical accidents
* Learn the safe needling depth for points on the abdomen and shoulder
* Learn how to safely needle deep points and learn the benefits of ultrasound guided acupuncture
